In my program Math in Your Feet I help students and their teachers literally 'make math' as they choreograph their own percussive dance patterns. In my own journey to deepen my understanding of the nature of mathematics, I have begun to 'make math' with my daughter as well. This is now a project I call Math by Design and includes some of my favorite examples of how she and I (and all my other students) are literally building an understanding of math one straw, craft stick, pipe cleaner, and colored pencil at a time.
